Well a day late and $23 short.
Well that was a fun night, watching the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup Trophy. I watched the previous two wins, while sitting in the same seat, at Mitchell's Tap here in Bridgeport. Tonight I was a bit apprehensive when I arrived as some old fogey was sitting in my seat at the bar, but alas...apparently that was not the reason the Hawks won those games. However, I was sitting at the same bar, so maybe that was the reason. Anyway, no need to thank me for this Championship, most of the credit goes to the players and the organization.
No credit given to the local NBC affiliate for not showing replays of the game until about an hour after the game ended. Like I really give a shit about watching my fellow fair-weather fans jam packed onto Clark street after the victory. It's fine for about five minutes, but after that I just don't care. And on a side note, where is the stable for the CPD's horses located? Do they go there first, hop on the saddle and then bust ass to Wrigleyville to patrol the crowds? Somehow I doubt it, but it would be fun if they slapped a red GOAL light on the horse's ass and galloped through traffic lights to get there.
Well now that hockey is over we can all concentrate on baseball. It's still the best sport out there. Ever notice what happens when basketball and football and hockey teams win championships? They put on a baseball cap. I'm pretty sure it's to honor America's national pastime. I've never seen a baseball championship winner put on a football helmet or a gold chain (lame basketball joke).
If you have a chance to pickup some Vitner's Hot Wings & Blue Cheese flavored potato chips at your local gas station, don't bother.
Walked home from Mitchell's tonight and moseyed on into God's Closet here at the homestead. If you don't know, God's Closet is part of the Lutheran Church where I reside. Good folks drop off clothes and other assorted goods so those in need can stop in and pick up items they may need to survive in these capitalistic times. Well about two weeks ago, someone or some entity dropped off about 25 boxes of brand new books. Not sure where they came from, but they all had price tags on them. Fortunately for me, I paid nothing for those I confiscated. The first batch I grabbed was about 15 books. A week later I grabbed 17 more and tonight, I picked up another 22. I'm something of a book whore. I like to read. Someone should really pay me to read books for them. Almost everyone says they wishes they could read more, but now they don't really have to. Wanna read a book, but don't have the time? I'll do it for you! Sounds like a win-win situation...for me and my wallet.
Shockingly enough, I found the 2012 Baseball Prospectus book down there. The 2011, 2010, 2009 and maybe the 2008 issues were down there as well. Bridgeport folks must not know a good read when they see one, as I donated all of those books to God's Closet a year ago when I moved in. Idiots! Seriously though, I wonder how many folks who stream into that place looking for things even bother to sift through the books? I'd guess over a 1000 new books were dropped off and I ended up with about 5% of them. Though to be fair, there are quite a few books gone, so hopefully quite a few local Bridgeport families are enjoying some good reading on these hot summer nights. No doubt, there are kids gathered round the fireplace while Mom and Dad take turns reading passages from Nikki Sixx's The Heroin Diaries. According to Rolling Stone, it's "Required reading". And yes, there were multiple copies so I grabbed several for some friends.
Ahhh....heroin. The drug I'll never try, but will always sort of want to try. Must be amazing. I really should work on being a drug addict. I feel like I'm failing in so many ways and that one in particular. I would be an awesome drug addict, I just know it! I guess it's not in the cards though. Regardless and just in case, I'm going to add that to my bucket list. If Nikki Sixx can do it, why can't I?
Speaking of drugs, religion can be something akin to a drug, so I picked up this little gem.
We used to have this book when I was a wee little lad. This copy, despite the price tag, was given to Paul L. on April 30, 1978. I don't know who Paul L. is, but he was either extremely careful when reading the book, or he just didn't bother reading it at all. Heck even I read some of it during my youth. Not sure I remember any of it, but at least I remembered having it. How many more times can I use it in a sentence?
The roast beef sandwich at Mitchell's is pretty ho-hum. I had it with cheese and peppers and giardiniera and it pretty much had no taste whatsoever. Looked good. Tasted like almost nothing. That's okay though, as every time I go there the bill ends up being much less than I expect to pay. Thank you, Mitchell's! The pizzas are pretty decent though, especially during Blackhawks games when they are buy one, get one free. I suppose that information isn't really any help now though, is it? Should have posted this last week. Sorry.
Wow! I am one sexy beast over in Latvia, my friends. Eighty views from that country over the past month. That's four times the amount of traffic I'm getting from Germany and Japan during the same time span. Thank you my Latvian friends! I couldn't do this without you, and quite frankly, I wouldn't do this without you. You are my rock!
